Weather the Elements: How Pergola X Endures Any Forecast

Design Your Perfect Outdoor Space

Whether it’s a homeowner seeking backyard shade or a business owner expanding outdoor seating, one question always rises to the surface: Will their investment stand up to the weather? With Pergola X, the answer is a confident yes. At StruXure, we are committed to more than just delivering a premium product. We deliver peace of mind. That’s why our pergolas are engineered and tested, from hurricane-prone Florida to snow-covered Ontario, proving their ability to stand strong against the elements.

The result is a structure that doesn’t just look stunning, but performs under the toughest conditions: rain, wind, snow, and heat.

Rain Management

Designed with integrated water management, the Pergola X louvers interlock to create a watertight surface, channeling water into a patented hidden gutter system that directs it away. No more ruined cushions, puddled decks, or damp gathering spaces.

For added versatility, our TraX system allows retractable screens to integrate seamlessly, providing an extra layer of defense against blowing rain, creating a fully sheltered outdoor space without sacrificing the open-air experience when the weather clears.

And for smart, hands-off protection, optional rain sensors trigger the louvers to close the moment precipitation is detected. Together, these features ensure your outdoor space stays comfortable, dry, and ready to enjoy, no matter the forecast.

Hurricane-Force Wind Resistance

Extreme winds can place intense stress on shade structures, especially the roof and motors, often resulting in irreversible damage. StruXure’s solution: engineer Pergola X to exceed hurricane-region performance standards. After all, from its home base in Georgia, StruXure has long understood the realities its Florida neighbors face each storm season.

After extensive testing and refinement, our Pivot 6 louvers proved their strength, withstanding wind speeds of up to 150 mph. Partnering with Frank Bennardo, PE of Engineering Express, we became the only pergola company to secure the internationally recognized ICC certification, giving unmatched credibility in high-wind environments.

It’s important to note that this performance is only possible when the roof is fully open, allowing wind to pass through rather than against the structure. To make protection effortless, our engineers developed wind sensors that automatically open the roof when wind speeds reach 60 mph, safeguarding the pergola from harm.

Snow Loads

One of the most critical design considerations for Pergola X is its ability to support snow loads, as snow accumulation places unique pressure on different parts of a structure. Without proper engineering, this added weight can cause bending, warping, or even structural failure.

Our motorized louvers meet rigorous ICC certification standards, a mark of their proven strength in northern regions where heavy snow is a fact of life. Built with load capacity in mind, the framework can support anywhere from 20 to 70 pounds of snow per square foot, depending on elevation and location.

It’s recommended to keep the louvers open during snowfall to prevent excess weight and avoid freezing in place. This also allows snow and ice to melt and drain more quickly once temperatures rise, helping the system return to normal use sooner.

Intense Sun and Heat

By controlling sun exposure and encouraging natural airflow, StruXure pergolas help reduce heat buildup, transforming even the hottest days into comfortable, shaded outdoor spaces. The Pivot 6 louvers rotate up to 170 degrees, allowing you to fine-tune the balance of sunlight and ventilation throughout the day. When closed, the powder-coated aluminum provides shade and UV protection, helping lower ambient temperatures while shielding furniture and finishes from sun damage.

For an extra layer of comfort, optional ceiling fans can be seamlessly integrated into the design. And when paired with composite decking like TimberTech, which can retain heat under direct sunlight, the adjustable shade of Pergola X helps keep deck surfaces noticeably cooler. Whether you’re hosting guests or relaxing solo, the combination of shade, airflow, and adjustable light creates a space that stays cool, calm, and inviting.

From coastal storms to mountain snow, Pergola X is built to perform beautifully in every region. With the expertise of StruXure Dealers across the U.S. and parts of Canada, each installation is tailored to local conditions, delivering lasting comfort and confidence in any weather.
