Simple Year-Round Care Tips for Pergola X Maintenance

Design Your Perfect Outdoor Space

Your pergola is designed to enhance your outdoor space with beauty and precision. A little care goes a long way to keep it performing and looking its best. Here’s how to maintain your StruXure system with simple, low-maintenance steps, ensuring your space remains elegant year-round.

Debris-Free is the Way to Be: Regular Roof Top Cleaning

Begin by blowing leaves and twigs off the top of the pergola roof with a blower. Next, use a soft-bristle brush or dry cloth to gently clean both sides of the louvers. You can easily access each side by adjusting the louvers with your remote or through the Somfy or Bond app. Be sure to reach into corners and tight areas where dust can collect.

Once everything is clear, rinse with a low-pressure hose or wipe with a damp cloth to restore a clean, polished finish.

Clear the Way: Gutter and Downspout Maintenance

While StruXure pergolas are designed to be low maintenance, it’s important to keep gutters and downspouts free of leaves, sticks, and other debris that can block water flow. Open pathways ensure proper drainage and protect your StruXure system from overflow or moisture accumulation that can cause unnecessary wear.

Inspect periodically to confirm that water is flowing as it should and that no areas are pooling or backing up. You can check by running water over the gutters with a hose. If you notice a clog, use a long, flexible brush or plumber’s snake to clear it.

Wash with Care: Gentle Cleaning

When washing your pergola, gentle methods go a long way in preserving the protective powder-coated finish. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive tools, and always test any cleaning method on a small, inconspicuous area first.

Removing Dirt, Mildew, and Environmental Streaks

Sometimes, your pergola may face heavier dirt buildup, mildew, and streaking, requiring more than just a simple dust-off. In such cases, all you need is a mild dish soap, such as Dawn dish soap, and water. Apply using a soft sponge, cloth, or soft-bristled brush, scrubbing gently to prevent surface damage.

Once you’ve scrubbed all the stubborn stains away, thoroughly rinse with a garden hose to remove all the solution residues to prevent streaking or spotting. This ensures that your structure remains a beautiful part of your outdoor space.

Low-Pressure Power Washing

For a deeper clean, low-pressure washing can help remove built-up dirt and grime. Keep the pressure between 1,500–2,000 PSI and hold the nozzle at least a foot away from the surface. To protect the metal finish, keep the sprayer moving continuously (never hold it in one spot) to prevent streaking or coating damage.
