Because the right pergola
didn’t exist
Pergola X began with a single customer request and no product on the market to meet it.
While working summers as a contractor, StruXure founder Scott Selzer was asked to build a shade structure for a deck where seasonal light mattered. The homeowner wanted shade in summer, sunlight in winter, and a reliable way to block the rain. It was a reasonable request, but one that exposed a surprising gap in the market. A pergola with pivoting louvers could solve all three, but at the time, no such product existed in the U.S.
So, Scott designed one.
He created a platform. One that could be customized in size, shape, and configuration while maintaining consistent performance. This approach allowed each Pergola X to be purpose-built for its environment, responding not only to the sun overhead, but to the space around it.
Pergola X wasn’t created to be repeated: it was created to be tailored, setting the foundation for a new way of thinking about outdoor structures.
