When a successful Canadian restaurant chain came to Miami, it quickly understood that providing covered outdoor seating would be a game-changer.

Moxie’s Restaurants—known for quality food made with fresh ingredients—originated in Canada in the mid-1980s, and eventually entered the U.S. market in 2016 with a Dallas location. By 2019, Moxie’s was eying Miami as the next step in its U.S. expansion. While the restaurant chain owners valued indoor and outdoor seating, there were concerns about South Florida’s unpredictable wind and rain flare-ups. Enter the Pergola X. The original ask was for a small sidewalk cover, but as this savvy client began to understand the full functionality of the automated pivoting louvered-roof system, the project increased five-fold, leading to the largest covered outdoor seating area in Miami’s bustling mixed-use redevelopment of Mary Brickell Village. The project was not without its challenges, as there was a lot of custom work required to address the many angles of the adjoining building. Ultimately, the expanded outdoor space has become a favorite not only for dine-in customers, but for many local businesses that now have a handy function area in which to host their business events.
We installed the Pergola X system to increase our seating capacity and engage customers in Brickell Village, but it turned out that being able to seat people outdoors made a huge difference in our ability to reopen once pandemic restrictions began to ease. We were ready!
